Red velvet waffles9/12/2023 ![]() All all of a sudden, theres, like, molten lava, red velvet waffle batter pouring out of this waffle maker. It's small and doesn't take up a lot of storage space, but makes nice sized waffles. Red velvet cake in Atlanta is like what cheesecake is in New York. We used this heart-shaped one that we absolutely love for the thin, crispy waffles. You can use any kind of waffle maker for these waffles - Belgian waffle maker, or a thinner waffle maker. Next, add liquid ingredients to dry ingredients slowly while mixing with a rubber spatula. Now, beat egg whites until it just holds a 2-inch peak. Next, whisk yolks with vanilla, vinegar, buttermilk, and butter. Step 3 In a medium bowl, combine cream cheese. First, turn on the waffle iron and whisk the dry ingredients together. Step 2 In a large bowl, mix cake mix, eggs, and 2 cups milk. I used this basic liquid red food coloring to make these red velvet waffles. Step 1 Preheat waffle maker on medium heat. You'll need about 2-3 teaspoons of food coloring for this recipe (depending on how strong the color is), so make sure you have enough before you get started, otherwise you'll end up with pink waffles (though there is nothing wrong with that!). Simply add the cocoa powder to the dry ingredients and the food coloring to the wet ingredients. Add all of the ingredients (except chocolate chips if using) to a blender and blend until smooth. The cocoa powder gives these waffles a hint of chocolate flavor, while the red food coloring makes them a gorgeous red color that is perfect for a special breakfast. Here's a secret about making red velvet waffles: they're just as easy to make as regular waffles, but require 2 special ingredients: cocoa powder and red food coloring.
